Agility was first seen as a display in an interval at Crufts in 1978, it was an instant hit and is still hugely popular. The difference between “Fun Agility” and “Competition Agility” is that with Fun Agility there is no pressure involved.
The main purpose is for your dog to have fun, burn energy, and feel a sense of achievement. It gives your dog lots of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise which helps their wellbeing, not to mention yours too!
Agility sessions are extremely good for building your dog’s confidence, helping with reactivity issues, and is a great way to enhance your communication and bond with your dog.
It also measures your ability as a handler to direct your dog using both verbal and visual instruction, helping them to learn to focus on you by listening and watching you.
We work towards building confidence and communication between you and your dog and highlight how guiding your dog with clear instructions and good timing are key for training anything new.
Our Fun Agility Classes are open to all breeds of dog, of all abilities, and each dog is trained at its own pace. As with all our other training Classes, Fun Agility Classes are run using positive reinforcement and there is no negative reprimanding of dogs.
Please note that due to the fact that young dogs bones and cartilage are still growing and strengthening, dog’s must be at least one year old before they can take part in Fun Agility at our Club. In addition, for both yours and everyone else’s dog’s safety, you must bring proof of your dog’s up to date vaccinations on your first visit.
Our Agility sessions are held in the grounds adjacent to Elvaston Village Hall (link to Venues, Class Times, and Charges), on Monday evenings throughout the summer months, weather dependent. If possible, if you are able to arrive early to help put out the equipment, it would be a great help, allowing the prompt start of the Class.
We are a non-profit making Club and the small fee charged (link to Venues, Class Times, and Charges) is to cover cost and any surplus goes towards dog related good causes.
If you would like to come along, please bring a soft toy your dog likes, as well as water, treats, and a place mat/towel for them . . . we look forward to meeting you both in the future.
